Acupuncture

Balancing the body’s energy flow

Acupuncture is one of the most widely practised and researched forms of complementary therapy. And has been used in China for more than 3,000 years.

Acupuncture involves inserting fine needles at selected points on the skin. These points are said to exist along 12 invisible channels (called meridians) through which vital energy, or ‘chi’, flows. It’s thought that when ‘chi’ is out of balance, your health suffers. Inserting needles at these points is believed to rebalance ‘chi’, and so help treat disease and relieve pain.

Acupuncture has been shown to alleviate many health problems. And is even recognised by the World Health Organisation for its effectiveness in treating over 40 conditions. These include:

  • Asthma
  • Migraines
  • High blood pressure
  • Headaches
  • Menstrual and digestive problems
  • Pain

Many maternity wards and physiotherapists now use acupuncture for pain relief.
